| Audrey Lilian Enkel |
On the 4th January 1937 Audrey Lilian was born into the care of Lawrence and Margaret Sell.
In 1951 she met Peter, their friendship blossomed and they married in Buntingford, Hertfordshire, in 1956. Their loving relationship produced three sons, Jonathan, Roger and James. Her family became her universe. As time passed her family grew and she became proud grandmother to Nathan, Rebekah, Isaac, Jakob, Gabrielle, Hannah and Auburne.
In later years a relentless deterioration of her health confined her to a wheelchair and she was thereafter progressively denied most of the activities she enjoyed most. Nevertheless, not once was she heard to complain or bemoan her lot and her words "I'm fine" or "I feel good" epitomized her courage and became bywords to those close to her. Her beautiful smile was her hallmark. This cheerful acceptance inspired all who met her. Audrey particularly liked the following prayer, which was included in her funeral memorial: "A North American Indian Prayer" by Star hawk Earth mother, star mother, you are called by a thousand names, May all remember we are cells in your body and dance together. You are the grain and the loaf that sustains us each day, and as you are patient with our struggles to learn so shall we be patient with ourselves and each other. We are radiant light and sacred dark, the balance, You are the embrace that heartens And the freedom from beyond fear. Within you we are born we grow, live, and die You bring us around the circle to rebirth,
within us you dance, forever. Last update: Tuesday, 11 September 2007
